The police have formed a special investigation team and have prepared a list of names of about 300 accused involved in such cases. Now a case of arrest of two workers has come to light.
As the date of the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya approaches, the case of Karnataka Police arresting two activists in the three-decade-old case of the Ram Mandir movement has come to light. In this movement, cases of destruction of property and many other cases have been registered against him. Along similar lines, the police in Hubli have prepared a list of three hundred accused.
Sources say that action is being taken on old cases of violence and communal riots three decades ago in 1992, when the Ram Mandir movement was at its peak, during the rule of the Congress government in Karnataka. The police have formed a special investigation team and have prepared a list of names of about 300 accused involved in such cases.
All these cases occurred between 1992 and 1996 during the Ram Mandir movement. Police have arrested two people, including a man named Shrikant Pujari, for burning a minority shop in Hubli on December 5, 1992. Pujari is the third accused in this case, who has been sent to judicial custody by the police. Now the police are searching for eight other people accused in the same case.
Police sources say that most of the accused are now around 75 years of age. Many of them have long ago settled outside the city. Many of these accused are now holding very high positions. The police are also confused about the consequences of taking action against those people. According to Prater, Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly R. Ashok told reporters that Congress is threatening Hindu activists by reopening cases against them who were involved in the 31-year-old Ayodhya movement.
