Rajasthan: Claim of Shiva temple in Ajmer Dargah, Hindu Sena filed a petition in the court
The petition filed by Hindu Sena president Vishnu Gupta claimed that earlier there was a temple of Lord Shiva on the land of the dargah. Worship and Jalabhishek used to take place there. Also, a book written by Ajmer resident Har Vilas Sharda in the year 1911 was cited in which a temple is mentioned at the place of the dargah.
An application was filed on behalf of Hindu Sena before the Chief Judicial Magistrate stating that there was Sankat Mochan Mahadev temple in the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti in Ajmer, Rajasthan, which Judge Pritam Singh refused to hear saying that this is outside his jurisdiction, the petition should be presented in the competent court. He asked to present the petition before the District Judge.
In his petition, president of Hindu Sena Vishnu Gupta had stated that earlier there used to be a temple of Lord Shiva on the land where dargah is situated. Worship and Jalabhishek used to take place there. It also cited a book written by Ajmer resident Har Vilas Sharda in 1911 mentions a temple in place of the dargah.
It was also said that the 75-foot-long Buland Darwaza present in the Dargah premises has parts of the debris of the temple in its construction. There is evidence of a sanctum sanctorum in the basement here. The petition states that after conducting an ASI survey of the dargah, it should be declared a Hindu temple, and permission should be given to install Lord Sankat Mochan Mahadev in the dargah and to perform worship according to Hindu customs.
Describing the dargah as illegal, a demand has also been made to remove the unauthorized occupation of the dargah committee. Hindu Sena has also presented evidence regarding the structure of the dargah and the evidence of the Shiva temple. The petition also makes the Central Government's Minority Ministry, Archaeological Survey Department and the Dargah Committee as parties. Lawyer Shashi Ranjan Kumar says that there is no evidence of any mosque and dargah in Ajmer in the books of Shahjahan's time and Akbarnama etc.
An objection has been raised on behalf of the dargah on the petition of the Hindu Sena. Nasruddin Chishti, President of All India Sufi Sajjadanasheen Council and successor of Dargah Diwan Syed Zainul Abedin, and Sarwar Chishti, Secretary of Anjuman Syed Jagdan, an organization of dargah khadims, said that if false and baseless conspiracies are hatched at religious places, it will not be tolerated. We will respond to it.
He further said that if we look at history, no objection was ever raised about Dargah Khwaja Saheb. From Mughals to Khilji and Tughlaq, Hindu kings, Rajput kings and even Marathas looked at the Dargah with great respect and expressed their faith.
