Now, Indian Railways has framed a policy for the betterment of the government treatment facilities available for railway staff. Under this policy, railway employees, pensioners, and dependents will be able to get treatment in hospitals such as AIIMS and PGI. Railway employees will be given treatment in the hospital on showing a card priced at Rs 100. Actually, the railway will issue a Unique Medical Identification - UMID card for the employees.

This new policy of Railways will benefit more than 37 lakh people that also include 12.5 lakh employees, more than 15 lakh pensioners, and about 10 lakh dependents. According to Railways, with the help of this card, employees, pensioners, or dependent employees can get their treatment done in any hospital or diagnostic center included in the panel of Railways. Along with this, if an employee does not have a UMID, then his number will also be valid for treatment. Through this card, employees can get free treatment in all AIIMS of the country.

The order for the issuance of a UMID card has been issued by Pranav Kumar, Executive Director Transformation, Railways. Along with this, the UMID card will be kept in DigiLocker through the Health Management Information System. Apart from this, this card will also be available on the profile of railway employees-pensioners. Railways said that referral will be issued for some hospitals in special circumstances, it will be valid only for 30 days.
