Rahul said- President should inaugurate the new Parliament House...not the PM: Congress said- Savarkar Jayanti on May 28, inauguration on this day is an insult to nation builders
On May 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new building of Parliament. Rahul Gandhi has opposed it. Rahul wrote on his social media handle – President Draupadi Murmu should inaugurate the new building of Parliament, not the Prime Minister.
On the other hand, all the opposition parties and Congress have raised questions about the date of the inauguration of the new building. Congress said- May 28 is the birth anniversary of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, so inaugurating the new Parliament House on this day is an insult to the nation builders.
On May 18, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla invited the Prime Minister to inaugurate the new building.
The work of the new Parliament House built at a cost of Rs 862 crore has been completed. The Prime Minister laid its foundation stone on 10 December 2020. The construction of the new Parliament building started on 15 January 2021. This building was to be completed in November last year. This building built under the Central Vista Project is the dream project of the Prime Minister. It was built in 28 months.
The old Parliament building is 47 thousand 500 square meters, while the new building has been built at 64 thousand 500 square meters. That is, the new building is 17 thousand square meters bigger than the old one. The new parliament building is of 4 storeys. It has 3 doors, they are named Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar, and Karma Dwar. There is a separate entry for MPs and VIPs. The earthquake will not affect it. Its design has been prepared by HCP Design, Planning, and Management Private Limited. Its architect is Bimal Patel.
The current Parliament House was built 96 years ago in 1927. In March 2020, the government told Parliament that the old building was overutilized and was deteriorating. Along with this, there is not enough space in the old building to accommodate the MPs who will increase after the new delimitation of Lok Sabha seats. For this reason, a new building is being constructed.
