Two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu entered the quarterfinals of the India Open 2025 with a second-round win over Japan's Manami Suiju on Thursday. The world number 14 from India won 21-15, 21-13 against her opponent in a match that lasted 46 minutes at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall of Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

The Indian shuttler dominated the match from the start and went ahead with an 11-6 lead at the break. She capitalized on the lead and finished the game 21-15. In the second game, the Hyderabad-born Sindhu went all out and did not give the Japanese player any chance to make a comeback. Sindhu, playing for the first time after marriage, played with full force and took an 11-2 lead in the second game. She won the game 21-13 to seal the match and make it to the last eight of the BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament.

"I was playing with her for the first time and there were some long rallies and I was prepared for it. I am happy that I was able to give my 100 percent. Now I have to bounce back for tomorrow and come back stronger," Sindhu said after the match. Sindhu will next face Paris Olympics bronze medallist Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia on Friday.

Earlier in the day, left-handed Indian men's singles player Kiran George entered the quarterfinals with a fighting performance against World No. 38 Alex Lanier of France as he defeated the French No. 1, 22-20, 21-13 in 46 minutes. The Indian shuttler will play China's Weng Hongyang in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Indian women's doubles duo of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa lost 9-21, 21-23 against Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto of Japan in the Round of 16. The pair thus became the fourth Indian doubles pair to bow out on the day.
