On Sunday,Thousands of tribals gathered at Unai, the hometown of Congress MLA Anant Patel after he was attacked on Saturday night by a group of men at Khergam in Navsari district.
The protesters said that the police should arrest the accused within 72 hours, failing which they will block the roads of the tribal belt's 14 districts.
According to the first information report filed by the police, Patel alleged that the attack was carried out on orders of Zila Panchayat chief Bhikhu Ahir when he was reaching Khergam,Navsari for a meeting.
The 42 year old Anand Patel had played a key role in the uprising of the tribals earlier this year when the Centre decided to halt the Par-Tapi-Narmada (PTN) river-linking project which was held in May to avoid the displacement of tribals from their ancestral land in the project-affected region.
Gujarat BJP Chief CR Patil answered in reply that the Congress leader was doing drama to stir the sympathy ahead of the assembly elections in the State.
