President Draupadi Murmu will visit Assam on Thursday. She will be visiting this state on the 6th and 7th of April. During this, the President will participate in the Elephant Festival at Kaziranga National Park here. According to media reports, two ranges of Kaziranga National Park will remain closed for tourists on April 6 and 7 during the President's visit.
This festival is organized every year in the national park. This year it is being jointly organized by the Environment and Forest Departments of the Central and State Governments. This festival will be held on the 7th and 8th of April. The festival is being organized to celebrate 30 years of Project Elephant and to promote conservation efforts.
The jeep and elephant safari in the park will be closed for two days for tourists during the event. Kaziranga National Park is located in the Golaghat and Nagaon regions of Assam. It is the oldest park in Assam spread over 430 sq.KM along the banks of river Brahmaputra in the north and Karbi Anglong hills in the south.
This national park is famous worldwide for its one-horned rhinoceros. This is the reason that UNESCO has included this National Park in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
