Seasoned goalkeeper and former Indian Hockey captain PR Sreejesh on Monday announced his retirement, stating that the Paris Olympics 2024 will be his last show at the international level. PR Sreejesh played 328 international matches in his career, including three Olympics, several Commonwealth Games, World Cups, and many important tournaments where he performed strongly for the Indian team. Sreejesh has announced his retirement from international hockey after the Paris Olympics. Sreejesh made his international debut for India during the 2006 South Asian Games.

He had represented the hockey team that finished with a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian men's hockey team, currently on a quest to win the gold medal at Paris following their 41-year medal drought at Tokyo 2020, has been training rigorously for it and Sreejesh has remained an integral part of those plans. On this occasion, Sreejesh thanked his family, teammates, coaches, fans, and Hockey India through a post on the social media platform X. He described the medal won at Tokyo 2020 as a dream come true and said that his retirement is the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new adventure.

Sreejesh has also been a member of the 2022 Asian Games gold medal-winning team, as well as winning the Asian Champions Trophy on four occasions and a bronze medal at the FIH Hockey World League Final in 2015. He was also awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 2021.
