Power consumption is continuously increasing in the country, increased by 11% to 144.89 billion units in April

Statistics regarding electricity consumption in the country are released every month by the Ministry of Power. According to these data, the production in April increased by about 11 percent to 144.25 billion units (BU) compared to a year ago. The main reason for this is the increase in temperature. Whereas in April 2023 the electricity consumption was 130.08 BU. The power ministry has estimated peak demand during summer at around 260 GW.

Figures regarding electricity consumption are released every month. Today the figures regarding electricity consumption in April have been released. According to these figures, India's electricity consumption increased by about 11 percent to 144.25 billion units (BU) in April compared to a year ago. The main reason for this is the increase in temperature.

According to government data, electricity consumption in April 2023 was 130.08 BU. The peak supply in a day (peak power demand) also increased to 224.18 GW in April 2024, compared to 215.88 GW in April 2023.

The power ministry has estimated peak demand during summer at around 260 GW. Experts said the increase in demand along with an increase in power consumption was mainly due to a rise in temperature and an increase in industrial activities in sectors like steel and power.

He said with the onset of summer, electricity demand as well as consumption will continue to grow strongly.

Unseasonal rains between April and July prevented the country's electricity demand from reaching the 229 GW level that the Power Ministry had predicted for the summer of 2023. In June, peak supply reached a record high of 224.1 GW, but in July, it dropped to 209.03 GW.

Last year, in August 2023, the greatest demand was 238.82 GW; in September, October, and November, it was 243.27 GW, 222.16 GW, 204.77 GW, December 2023, December 2023, January 2024, and February 2024, it was 222.72 GW.

Industry experts said power consumption was affected in March, April, May, and June of 2023 due to widespread rainfall. Electricity consumption increased in August, September, and October, mainly due to wet weather and a surge in industrial activities ahead of the festival season.
