Power consumption decreased in August, use reduced due to rain
The highest supply in a day i.e. peak power demand also declined to 216.68 GW in August as against 236.29 GW in the same period a year ago. In May this year, the peak hour demand reached an all-time high of about 250 GW. Earlier, 243.27 GW peak hour demand was recorded in September 2023.
Due to more than-normal rainfall, power consumption in the country in August fell by 4.7 percent to 144.21 billion units as compared to the same period a year ago. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, 287.1 mm of rainfall was recorded in August, which is about 16 percent more than the normal 248.1 mm. Last year, 151.32 billion units of electricity was consumed in August.

With the beginning of the festival season starting with Ganesh Chaturthi this month, power demand, along with consumption, is expected to remain stable in the days to come due to improvement in commercial and industrial consumption in the country," he said, quoted by experts.
