UAPA case against NewsClick: The Special Cell of Delhi Police raided the premises associated with the news portal 'NewsClick' and its journalists on Tuesday morning. The police have taken this action in connection with allegations of the news portal receiving funding from China.

Delhi Police raided the houses of many journalists including Abhisar Sharma associated with news portal Newsclick on the morning of 3 October. The police have taken this action in connection with allegations of the news portal receiving funding from China. It is being told that currently, raids are going on at more than 30 places on various premises linked to the website. Action has been taken against Newsclick writer Urmilesh, Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, and anchor Abhisar Sharma. Journalist Abhisar Sharma himself has tweeted the information about the action. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had earlier also raided the company's premises as part of its investigation into the sources of funding of the news portal. The special cell is conducting raids on the basis of information received from the central agency.

Action has been taken against Newsclick writer Urmilesh, Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, and anchor Abhisar Sharma. The police have taken Urmilesh with them. His lawyer Gaurav Yadav has also reached the Delhi Police Special Cell office. Talking to the media, the lawyer said that Urmilesh's wife told me that he had been arrested by Delhi Police.

This action is based on a case registered on August 17 under UAPA and other sections of the IPC. A case has been registered under sections 153A (promoting enmity between two groups), section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. NewsClick founder and editor-in-chief Prabir Purkayastha was also brought to the Delhi Police Special Cell office.

Anchor Abhisar Sharma had tweeted at 8 am in the morning that the Delhi Police team reached his house and took away his laptop and phone. SAIL has also taken the staff of News Click itself to the Lodhi office. Many senior journalists are said to be on the premises of the cell. Sources have also said that many journalists will be allowed to go after questioning if they cooperate in the investigation.
