In a video message for the ongoing 3-day meeting in Hyderabad, PM Modi said that climate change is causing a spate of extreme weather events and these challenges are felt most by the global South.
The Prime Minister said that globally, agriculture provides a livelihood for more than 2.5 billion people. In the Global South, agriculture is responsible for nearly 30 percent of GDP and more than 60 percent of jobs, and the sector faces many challenges today. Supply chain disruptions due to the pandemic have been worsened by the impact of geopolitical tensions.
PM Modi said that extreme weather events happening due to climate change, are happening again and again. These challenges are most felt by the Global South.
He said India's policy is a mix of "back to basics and march to the future", even as the country is promoting technology-enabled agriculture along with natural farming.
Modi said farmers across the country are practicing natural farming without using synthetic fertilizers or pesticides with a focus on rejuvenating Mother Earth.
