Platform tickets will not be available at these stations; Railways made a decision
Railways: Nine people were injured while trying to board the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express train on platform number one of Bandra Terminus railway station in Mumbai on Sunday morning. After this, the Railways decided to ban the sale of platform tickets.
There has been a temporary ban on the sale of platform tickets at several stations by Indian Railways. Some stations include Dadar, Thane, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Nagpur, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Thane, Kalyan, and Pune of Central Railway. This decision was taken by Railways to manage the huge crowd on the platform and to have a smooth movement of passengers within the station premises. As per the railway officials, the ban on the sale of platform tickets will remain till November 8 due to Diwali and Chhath Puja. However, senior citizens and people with medical needs are exempted from the ban.
As a matter of fact, nine persons were injured while boarding the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express train on platform number one of Bandra Terminus railway station in Mumbai on Sunday morning. Because of going to homes on festivals, there was a huge crowd at the railway station. The moment the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express train reached the Bandra railway station, there was a jostling to board the train. This led to a stampede. Videos of the incident went viral on social media. Afterward, Central Railway banned the selling of platform tickets temporarily.
A large number of people planning to go to their native places in view of Diwali and Chhath festivals had reached Bandra Terminus. As soon as the unreserved train was brought to the platform, many passengers rushed to board it. A municipal corporation official said the incident occurred at 5.56 am. He said a large number of people-boarded the platform number 1 of Bandra Terminus to board the train 22921 Bandra-Gorakhpur Antyodaya Express. In reported chaos, while boarding the train, some had fallen in the gap between two coaches or over the gap fell on the platform. Initial reports stated prima facie it seems that people suffered injury due to collision with coaches or falling in the gap between two coaches. Immediately, the injured were rushed to Bhabha Hospital by RPF personnel and local people.
