Piyush Goyal: 'QCO will help in reducing the import of substandard goods', this is what the Union Minister said on MSME
Piyush Goyal: The Union Minister said that the orders related to quality control will benefit small and medium industries. These orders prevent them from importing low-quality goods at the wrong price from outside the country.
The orders related to quality control (QCOs) from the government are to protect MSMEs from unfair competition. This will help them to reduce the import of substandard goods. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said this on Saturday. He said that through these orders the government is helping small and medium industries. He said, "We are giving time to MSMEs to meet the requirements of QCD."
He said that the orders related to quality control will benefit small and medium industries. "These orders prevent them from importing low-quality goods at a wrong price from outside the country. The MSME sector was protected from unfair competition in this way by these orders," he added. The Union Minister also added the word MSMEs should not be seen only as a small enterprise.
According to Goyal, there are thousands of MSMEs working in the entire ecosystem around large industries and businesses. Without them, these big industries cannot succeed. The Union Minister said that MSMEs act as suppliers and customers for large industries and businesses. He added that MSMEs also play a huge role in the development of the country's tourism and infrastructure sector. They also have a large share in the country's exports. He said that many SMEs had their businesses registered on the BSE today.
Under QCO, the government disallows production, sale, trade, import and storage of such goods which do not sport the 'mark' of the Bureau of Indian Standards. The orders issued were about smart meters, nuts and bolts, and fasteners. The purpose behind issuing a QCO is that the import of low-quality products can be reduced so that customer welfare, safety, and the environment are guaranteed.
