Both customers and sellers are upset with the huge rise in onion prices. The price of onion in wholesale markets has increased from Rs 40-60 per kg to Rs 70-80 per kg.

Speaking to ANI, a seller at a Delhi market said, "The price of onion has increased from Rs 60 to Rs 70 per kg. We buy it from the mandi, so the prices we get from there affect the price at which we sell it. The increase in prices has led to a decrease in sales, but people are still buying it as it is an important part of the food habits here."

Faiza, a consumer, shared her woes on increasing onion prices, saying, "The price of onion has increased, while its prices should have gone down according to the season. I purchased onions for Rs 70 kg. This has impacted the eating behavior at home. I urge the government to reduce at least the prices of vegetables that people consume daily." Till November 8, 2024, the price of onion in Delhi continued to hover around Rs 80 per kg.

The prices of onions are going up manifold in many states, including the Mumbai markets. Dr Khan, a buyer from the city, spoke to ANI on the price rise and said, "The price of onion and garlic has increased manifold. It has doubled. This has also affected the household budget. I bought 5 kg of onion for Rs 360."

Onion prices have gone up. The price of onion has increased from Rs 40-60 per kg to Rs 70-80 per kg. But like the rise and fall of the Sensex, the price of onion will also fall," said another buyer Akash.

Kishor, a seller in the market said, "The price of onion has risen due to inflation. The price has increased from Rs 60 to Rs 70-75, though it is a staple vegetable, so consumers are buying it." The price of onion has gone up all over the country and the vegetable is being sold in the range of Rs 80 per kg. In Lucknow too, onion prices are being sold at Rs 90 per kg.
