Patna High Court rejected petitions to reschedule the BPSC 70th preliminary examination

Patna High Court on Friday dismissed the petitions seeking cancellation of the 70th preliminary examination of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). The court's decision has come as a big setback for the students protesting re-examination citing irregularities in the examination. On 13 December 2024, irregularities were reported in the 70th preliminary examination of BPSC. The candidates had brought the matter to the High Court and had sought cancellation of the examination and re-examination. The commission had re-conducted the examination on 4 January 2025 at the Bapu Examination Center in Patna, to which some candidates had objected.

The High Court division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar and Justice Parth Sarthi had reserved the judgment after hearing the case on March 19. The court on April 28 made it clear that the examination would not be scrapped. However, the court directed that the examination process had to be made more transparent and secure from now on. For this purpose, a high-level committee has been asked to be formed.

After the High Court's decision, Patna teacher Guru Rahman has expressed displeasure. He said that he will go to the Supreme Court against this. At the same time, many students have also talked about turning to the Supreme Court.

The matter of irregularities in the 70th preliminary examination of BPSC had gained a lot of momentum. Against this, the students had protested fiercely on the streets of Patna. The protesting students also got the support of Jan Suraj leader Prashant Kishore. He sat on a hunger strike for several days. Apart from PK, many other leaders and teachers of private institutions of Bihar supported the candidates.
