Two doctors of Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College (GMC) in Maharashtra's Yavatmal were attacked by a patient with a fruit knife on Thursday. The doctor is seriously injured after being stabbed in the throat. The doctors have written a letter to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding security.
The doctors said that until security is provided, all emergency and non-emergency services will be stopped.
Yavatmal SP Pawan Bansod told that the name of the accused is Suraj Thakur. He was admitted to GMC Hospital. He had stabbed himself two days back. He is a mentally unstable person. When the doctors were on the rounds. Then Suraj attacked him with a knife. At present, the accused Suraj has been arrested.
The doctors of GMC protested against the attack and raised slogans against the police. BMC-MARD President Praveen Dhaage said that doctors have not been attacked for the first time. Earlier also an MBBS student was stabbed. Protests are underway against Thursday's attack. Security was sought from the police. Nothing has happened yet.
