Passenger vehicle sales cross 10 lakh in April-June quarter, number rises 18% to more than 6 lakh 45 thousand
For the first time in the country, passenger vehicle sales have crossed 10 lakh in the April-June quarter. With an increase of 18 percent, the number has reached 6 lakh 45 thousand 794.
On the back of tremendous demand for utility vehicles, wholesale sales of passenger vehicles in the country crossed 10 lakh for the first time in the April-June quarter of the current financial year. A total of 10,26,006 passenger vehicles were sold during this period. This figure is 2.95 percent higher than the 9,96,565 units sold in the same quarter of 2023-24. However, passenger car sales have declined. According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), 3,41,293 passenger cars were sold in the April-June quarter. This figure is 17 percent less than the 4,13,723 units sold in the same quarter a year ago. Van sales grew 9 percent year-on-year to 38,919 units.
Utility vehicles accounted for 63 percent of total record passenger vehicle sales. Utility vehicle sales increased by 18% in the April-June quarter, reaching 6,45,794 units. This figure was 5,47,194 units in the same quarter last year.
Total car sales in the April-June quarter increased by 16 percent to over 64 lakh. Total sales of two-wheelers increased by 20% to 49,85,631 units. Sales of three-wheelers increased by 14 percent to 1,65,081 units. Sales of commercial vehicles increased by 3.5 percent to 2,24,209 units.
In June, wholesale sales of passenger vehicles increased by 3% to 3,37,757 units. Two-wheeler sales also increased by 21% to 16,14,154 units. This period saw a 12% increase in three-wheeler sales to 53,025 units.
