Paris Olympic 2024: 7 wrestlers of India, who won 8 Olympic medals for the country in wrestling

Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat won the bronze medal in men's 57 kg freestyle wrestling at the Paris Olympics. This is India's 8th medal in wrestling in Olympic history. The special thing is that India has been winning wrestling medals in these games continuously since the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Wrestling has become India's second most successful sport in the Olympics. India has won a maximum of 13 medals in hockey in the Olympics. Now Olympic medals are coming continuously in wrestling. The following are the medals won by India in wrestling in the Olympics so far.

The first medal in wrestling in the Olympics for India was won by KD Jadhav in Helsinki in 1952. Like Aman Sehrawat, KD Jadhav also got this medal in the 57 kg weight category. KD Jadhav was fondly called 'Pocket Dynamo'.

After this, India had to wait for a long 56 years. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Sushil Kumar won the bronze medal in the 66 kg men's freestyle competition.

Sushil Kumar then created history by winning the silver medal in the same weight category in the 2012 London Olympics. He became the first Indian player to win a medal in two consecutive Olympics.

India won just 6 medals at the London Olympics. The win of Yogeshwar Dutt was in the 60 kg weight category in wrestling. Four years later, the medal of Yogeshwar Dutt was upgraded to a silver medal. In fact, the event's silver medalist wrestler from the London Olympics had his medal taken away for consuming banned substances.

In 2016, female wrestler Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal in the 58 kg weight category at the Rio Olympics. Sakshi Malik has become the first Indian woman to command a medal in wrestling.

Ravi Dahiya clinched the silver medal in the 57 kg weight category in Tokyo in the year 2020. More than delightful is the fact that Paris Olympics medalist Aman Sehrawat considers Ravi Dahiya his guru. Bajrang Punia also won a bronze in wrestling for India during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Punia was playing in the 65 kg weight category. Punia could not qualify for the Paris Olympics.

Aman Sehrawat claimed a bronze medal in the men's 57 kg freestyle at the Paris Olympics in 2024. He beat Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico 13-5 to win his bronze medal at the Games. With this, he eventually emerged as India's youngest individual Olympic medalist when he had just turned 21 years, zero months, and twenty-four days.
