Parcel scam: Fraudsters trap Prof. Sahab, withdraw Rs 7.9 lakh from account

All attempts by the government to curb parcel scams are proving futile. The government is alerting people about this scam day in and out, but still, people are getting trapped in it. The latest victim of a parcel scam is a professor from Udupi, Karnataka. A 33-year-old assistant has been duped of Rs 7.9 lakh here by the cyber thugs.

They then called up the professor, introducing themselves as FedEx employees, saying that a case had been registered against the professor under sections 66(C), 66(D) of the Police Information Technology Act, and 419 and 420 of the IPC. He was called up by a person introducing himself as one Sanjay Kumar.

He stated that a parcel had come in the name of the professor; five Iranian passports, five debit cards, and 150 grams of MDMA were found. The Mumbai Police have registered a case regarding this and arrests will be made soon. When the professor said that she would come to the police station and talk then, she was told that no, it could be done online as well.

Later, a video call was made through Skype. The professor asked for Aadhaar card and bank account details from him on the call. Consequent to this, Rs 7.9 lakh was transferred from him to different accounts to close the case, as stated in the complaint by the complainant.

They are calling every day. The only way to avoid such calls is to complain about them immediately. You can complain on the Chakshu portal. It is a straightforward thing that when you have not ordered any parcel, then why do you get worried? You can disconnect the call and, at any cost, do not make the mistake of giving money and information like Aadhar card, bank account, etc., end.
