Abbasi received a 7-year sentence in 1995 for his involvement in a coup plot against Benazir Bhutto's government. He named the coup 'Operation Khilaf', which was a failure. After his release, he formed a religiopolitical party named 'Hizb Allah Pakistan in 1999 at the behest of Musharraf.
The security analyst termed it as serious to reveal the names of armed forces personnel who have joined the banned TTP. “This is a big attempt by the Taliban to recruit personnel for the armed forces. The security forces will try to eliminate these fugitives by running a campaign against them.
Abbasi has been a former army commander. While posted in the Siachen area, he planned and executed attacks on Indian Army posts. Analysts describe Abbasi as synonymous with terror. He wanted to implement Sharia law through his Hizb Allah Pakistan faction.
These rebels include officers and soldiers of all parts of the Pakistan Army and paramilitary. Rasheed was also involved in the 2003 attack on then-President and Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf. He was caught in an operation in Waziristan and a case was registered against him. He was then sentenced to death. He was rescued in a prison break by the Taliban. He formed a terrorist group by the name of Ansar ul Asir.
