Foreign minister S Jaishankar has spoken candidly on India's relations with neighbourhood country Pakistan. Jaishankar has said that the era of uninterrupted talks with Pakistan is 'over'. He said, 'every action has a consequence and it is its karma'.

Speaking at the launch of a book, the External Affairs Minister said, "I think the era of uninterrupted dialogue with Pakistan is over. As far as Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, I think Article 370 is over. So, the issue today is what kind of relationship can we think of with Pakistan?

Now, he said, everybody says that India itself does not want dialogue. And, to a degree, that too is correct, he said. We will respond in its own language, he said, be it something positive or negative on the part of Pakistan.

Whatever be the case with Pakistan, Jaishankar said, we have strong relations with Afghanistan. He said, "As far as Afghanistan is concerned, there is a strong relationship between the people there. In fact, there is a certain goodwill for India at the social level. But when we look at Afghanistan, I think the basics of governance should not be forgotten.

He further added that we must understand very well that Afghanistan, with the presence of America there, is very different from Afghanistan minus the presence of America.

Jaishankar said India has got to find a basis of mutual interest with Bangladesh and India will deal with the "current government". "Our relations have seen ups and downs ever since the independence of Bangladesh, and it is only natural we will be pragmatic about the present government. But equally, we have to recognize that political changes are underway and they can be disruptive. And, of course, we have to take into account the mutuality of interests, saying Jaishankar.
