Pakistan will be punished for 5 years for giving sensitive information related to security, amendment in Army Act

The Parliament of Pakistan, while amending the Army Act, has provided for a punishment of up to five years for disclosing sensitive information related to the security of the country and the army. The National Assembly passed the Army Act (Amendment) Bill on Monday. It has been passed in the Upper House Senate only last week.
With the passage of this amendment in Pakistan's Army Act, 1952 by Parliament, it will now become law after President Arif Alvi's signature. The proposal comes at a time when his supporters attacked various military installations on May 9 to protest against the arrest of former prime minister Imran in a corruption case.
However, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has made it clear that this amendment to the Army Act will not apply to civilians. According to Dawn newspaper, the Army Act (Amendment) Bill provides under 26-A that any person who discloses or causes to be disclosed sensitive information can be jailed for up to five years.
In the Bill, a person under 26-B will not be able to engage in any political activity for two years from the date of his retirement, release, resignation, discharge, removal, or dismissal from service. It is further proposed that those who have been posted in sensitive posts are barred from participating in any kind of political activity during the five years following their removal from the post.
