A petition was filed on behalf of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in the Islamabad High Court on Monday, demanding the transfer of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan from Attock Jail in Punjab to the high-security Rawal Pindi's Adiala Jail. Is. Along with this, a request has also been made in the petition to allow the former PM to meet his family, lawyer, and doctor.
PTI's lawyer said it is a fundamental right of party chief Imran Khan to meet his lawyers and family. In the Toshakhana corruption case, Imran was convicted by the trial court of Islamabad and sentenced to three years on Saturday. Soon after, he was arrested by the Punjab Police from his Lahore home. Instead of Adiala Jail, he was sent to Attock Jail despite the court's direction.
The party's core committee meeting, chaired by PTI vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, expressed concern over the health and safety of the former PM. At the same time, according to the report of Geo News, Imran has been shifted to cell number two of the jail, where there is high security and better facilities.
At least eight PTI supporters were arrested and 20 others were booked for protesting on the streets in Rawalpindi against Imran's arrest, Dawn reported. On the other hand, 16 PTI workers arrested in Swat on Saturday were sent to jail on Sunday.
