Pakistan: Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan got a big blow from the court, 9 bail petitions rejected

Pakistan's local courts in Islamabad rejected nine petitions filed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan seeking bail in connection with the First Information Report (FIR) lodged against him over the violent protests. Local news agency Dawn gave this information.

On Tuesday, Islamabad's Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected three bail applications and Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Mohammad Sohail rejected six applications seeking pre-arrest bail for Khan. FIRs were registered against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman at Khanna and Barkahu police stations. According to Geo News, the judge said that Imran Khan's bail cannot be extended in view of the Supreme Court's decision.

Six cases were registered against the imprisoned PTI chief at Karachi Company, Ramna, Kohsar, Tarnool, and Secretariat police stations in the federal capital.

However, ADSJ Sohail has extended till September 7 the interim bail of Khan's wife Bushra Bibi in the case related to the fake receipt of Toshakhana gifts, reports Dawn. The arrest of the PTI chief in a corruption case on May 9 this year triggered violent protests and party supporters attacked defense and military installations in several parts of the country.

Meanwhile, the former prime minister was again put behind bars at Attock Jail earlier this month after a trial court in Islamabad found him guilty of concealing the income of the Toshakhana (state depository) for three years. Was sentenced to jail and fined Rs 100,000.
