Pakistan: A bus carrying Christian pilgrims met with a road accident in Pakistan's Punjab province. Six pilgrims have been killed in this accident and more than 50 pilgrims have been injured who have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The officer said that the bus was overloaded due to which the driver lost control of the bus while taking a turn and the bus overturned.
A major road accident occurred in Pakistan's Punjab province on Sunday. Actually, a speeding bus carrying Christian pilgrims for a religious gathering overturned at the turn. About six people died and 50 others were injured in this accident.
This accident happened in Sheikhupura, about 50 kilometers from Lahore. According to the information, the Christian pilgrims traveling on this bus were going for a religious gathering at the National Marian Shrine in Mariamabad. During this time, when the bus reached Khanka Dogran, Sheikhupura, it lost its balance and overturned while taking a turn.
As soon as the information was received, police and rescue officials reached the spot and sent the injured to the hospital for treatment. Officials said that six passengers died on the spot, while the condition of five people is critical. Officials said that the bus was overloaded at the time of the accident as there were 60 passengers on board.
The officer said that the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle while taking a turn. Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi expressed grief over those killed in the accident and ordered health officials to provide better treatment to the injured.
Since 1949, Christian pilgrims have been visiting the National Marian Shrine in Mariamabad to celebrate the birth of Mary. Mariamabad is also known as 'Mary City'.
