Employment: More than one crore jobs have increased in the unorganized sector in India in a year. After registering a growth of 10 percent, now more than 12 crore people are working in this sector.

Over one crore people got employment in the unorganized sector enterprises of the country in a year, i.e. employment increased by 10%. During this period, the number of unorganized enterprises also increased by more than 12%. With this, the number of employment in this sector crossed 12 crores. At the same time, the total number of establishments in the unorganized sector increased to 7.34 crores in 2023-24 as against 6.50 crores in 2022-23.

The Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation of the Central Government conducted an annual survey of non-agricultural unorganized enterprises for the period between October 2023 and September 2024, the findings of which show healthy growth of the unorganized sector. The survey shows that more than 12 crore people got employment in the enterprises of this sector during this period, which is one crore more than a year ago. This shows strong growth in the labor market.

The number of women-owned establishments in the unorganized sector has increased from 22.9% in 2022-23 to 26.2% this year. That is, there has been a jump of 14% in the number of women entrepreneurs. This shows the increasing interest and dominance of women in business.

The average remuneration per employee increased by 13% in 2023-24 compared with the year 2022-23, which is considered an important sign of improvement in the level of salary. This rise in wages will act as a catalyst for strengthening the labor market and boosting macroeconomic demand.

There is good news on the employment as well as earnings front in the unorganized sector. This increase is reflected in an upward movement of the average remuneration per employee in the manufacturing sector by the highest increase of a little over 16% over 2022-23. Of this, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation survey, the sectors that saw the strongest employment growth in the unorganized sector from October 2023 to September 2024 were other services at 17.86%, followed by the manufacturing sector with a 10.03% increase. In the manufacturing sector, the number of establishments during this period went up by 23.55%. The manufacturing sector grew 13%. This rapid growth underlines the consistent regional expansion and confirms the fact that this sector plays a very important role in the overall development of the unorganized sector.

The percentage of establishments using the Internet has also increased from 21.1% in 2022-23 to 26.7% in 2023-24, accordingly. This reflects the success of efforts by the central government to expand digital access across the nation.
