OpenAI disbanded the team working on Artificial Intelligence system, decision taken after Ilya Sutskever left the company

OpenAI, the company that created Chat GPT, recently left the company. OpenAI's co-founder and Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever left the company. Now another big decision has been taken by the company management. The team working on ultra-capable artificial intelligence systems has been disbanded.

According to a report, instead of maintaining the SuperAlignment team as a standalone entity, OpenAI is now pivoting its research to help the company achieve its security targets.

Sutskever and John Leik of OpenAI formed this team a year ago. This choice has been made during a period of increased scrutiny of his methodology. Regarding the security and safety of its AI products, the company is being closely examined.

Some media reports suggest that Sutskever is leaving the company after a clash with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. He wrote on X that OpenAI will develop safe and beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) under the leadership of Sam Altman.

Ilya Sutskever is leaving OpenAI, but no formal explanation has been provided. Reports state that Sutskever made this decision in order to focus on a new project, though. In addition to tweeting in support of his resignation, Sam Altman resigned as CEO of OpenAI. He did, however, later express regret for this in a different post.
