The car dealers across the state have bombed a memorandum to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and the latter has sought tax relief. They have demanded an amendment to the unintentionally increased tax in the transfer and reregistration fees of old cars from other states in the budget.

Hundreds of dealers who had come to attend the state-level meeting of the organization in Jaipur raised a single demand: retain the old tax as it is. They have also issued a warning about the intensification of the movement should a positive decision not come out of the state government within the next 15 days.

He further said that the one-time tax on the registration of vehicles purchased from other states in Rajasthan in lieu of green tax was already highest compared to other states of the country, now tripled in the budget. Due to this reason, the registration fee of an old vehicle on average has increased tremendously. He said the movement will be carried out in the state to protest the tax hike until the state government takes back the decision. Registration of old cars will not be held anywhere in the state, in any district or regional transport office. The movement will start on July 17 by gheraoing the RTO at Sikar. After the press conference, a delegation submitted a memorandum to the Jaipur district collector.

As per the spokesperson of the state organization, Mahesh Pareek, around 300 cars brought from other states get registered every day in the state, which brings revenue to the state government in the form of about two and a half crore tax, meaning that almost 50 crore rupees come in as a tax within a month. Now, the rise in this tax, as per the new budget, is going to hamper around 30 thousand car dealers in the state.

As per the President of the Sri Ganganagar Car Association, Pawan Kutwani: as a result of this income augmentation through enhanced tax rates, because of the stoppage of registration of vehicles from other states with them, the state government will directly lose Rs 600 crore annually. The dealers association has conducted demonstrations in Sri Ganganagar, Jodhpur, Kota, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, and Bhilwara, and memorandums have been submitted to the ministers in charge and district collectors. In this regard, dealers from across the state have held a meeting and submitted memorandums to Leader of Opposition Tikaram Julie, MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati, and about 15 MLAs demanding a ban on tax hikes. After the meeting, Rajat Chhabra was unanimously declared the acting president. Earlier, the delegation submitted a memorandum to Transport Minister Dr. Premchand Bairwa.
