The amount includes a refund of Rs 1,67,205 and a compensation of Rs 30,000 with an interest rate of nine percent from the date of purchase (July 3, 2023) till recovery.
Ola was also directed to deposit Rs 5,000 in its bank account 'Consumer Legal Aid' as a penalty for deceptive behavior by supplying defective products to customers.
According to Amar Ujala, complainant Maddie David, a resident of Zaheerabad, said that within a few days of delivery, the scooter suddenly stopped and he was stranded in the middle of the road.
The consumer had taken a loan from the bank to buy an electric two-wheeler.
David said that despite the assurances by the company representatives to resolve the problem and return the scooter within a few days, they did nothing.
While the forum issued several notices to Ola Electric's Bangalore office, he did not appear before the commission nor file his reply. Which is tantamount to accepting the allegations made in the complaint.
Noting that the company sold a defective vehicle to the complainant, the bench directed the manufacturer to comply with the order within 30 days from July 23.
