Now layoffs in Walmart: Walmart will lay off more than 2,000 employees, and Apple will also lay off soon
American multinational retail corporation Walmart Inc. Has made a plan to lay off more than 2,000 of its employees. The company has given this information in its regulatory filings. Employees of five US e-commerce fulfillment centers will be affected by this layoff. However, employees affected by the layoff may be offered other roles in the company.
The state Workforce Commission said Monday that the layoffs affected more than 1,000 employees at warehouses in Fort Worth and Texas. The company expects to lay off 600 employees at fulfillment centers in Pennsylvania, 400 in Florida and about 200 in New Jersey. Apart from this, the company has additional layoff plans in California. The company had informed about warehouse layoffs in regulatory filings last month.
A company spokesperson said in an email that Walmart is also growing in some areas as it adjusts its stores and fulfillment centers to handle more online orders. For this reason, instead of laying off some employees, the company may offer them other roles.
At the same time, layoffs are going to happen soon at Apple too. iPhone-maker Apple is going to make layoffs from its corporate retail teams soon, Bloomberg News reported on Monday, according to its sources. Employees of the development and preservation team of the company will also be affected by this retrenchment. However, it is not yet known how many employees Apple will lay off.
A Business Insider report also claimed that Apple employees have been asked to reapply for jobs or else they will be fired. The report states that employees who maintain and construct Apple retail stores and other facilities around the world will be most affected by the layoffs.
