Now Google's AI will be available in all Android devices, Google Assistant is gone
Gemini AI: Google is currently in the process of making Gemini the default assistant by removing Google Assistant in all smartphones. This process started last year, when Gemini was set as the default option in some new Android devices. Now Google is planning to extend it to older devices as well.

Google revealed that it will extend its Gemini AI to tablets, smartwatches, headphones and car infotainment systems powered by Android. The company revealed that the development of Google Assistant being replaced by Gemini on smartphones is currently underway and will next look at the development of Gemini for the next set of devices. The news was revealed by Google CEO Sundar Pichai when the firm was reporting its first quarter (Q1) earnings of 2025.
Google has implemented the Gemini model across its 15 platform-based products. The firm asserts that half a billion (500 million) people are currently using these AI tools. Google is actively phasing out Google Assistant from all smartphones and making Gemini the default one. Last year marked the beginning of this process when Gemini was made the default on certain new Android devices. Google wants to implement this on the existing devices as well.
Apart from this, Pichai said that by the end of this year, Google will also focus on devices outside of mobile. Gemini will also be brought as the default assistant in tablets, smartwatches, headphones and systems with Android Automotive OS (AAOS).
This move also indicates that Google Assistant will be completely phased out in the future, although Sundar Pichai has not yet clarified which devices will get Gemini and what will be its exact timeline.
