The Indian Premier League (IPL) will complete 17 years in the year 2024. The 17th auction of IPL will be held in Dubai. This will be the first time that the IPL auction will be held outside India. This will be a mini auction which will be completed in a day.

The first auction of IPL (IPL 2024) was held in the year 2008. Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) had become the most expensive player. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought him for Rs 6 crore. Dhoni was the most expensive player in the first auction but was not the first player to be sold.

The first in the history of the Indian Premier League auction was Australian veteran spinner Shane Warne. Rajasthan Royals (RR) was the only team which bet on spin king Shane Warne. Rajasthan had bought Warne for around Rs 1.8 crore. Buying Warne was a profitable deal for Rajasthan Royals and the team became champion.

Shane Warne played IPL till 2011. In the 2011 mega-auction, Rajasthan had retained Shane Warne for Rs 8.28 crore. Warne had taken 57 wickets in 55 matches. Made a comeback to the IPL in 2018 as a member of RR's coaching staff. He said goodbye to the world in 2022.

It was under Warne's captaincy that Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural IPL title by defeating MS Dhoni's CSK. After that, the team played the final for the second time in the year 2022. Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals had to face defeat at the hands of Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans.
