Non-Banking companies will also be able to issue e-RUPI vouchers, RBI governor told the complete plan
Announcing the decision of the monetary policy meeting, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said that now non-bank companies can also issue e-rupee vouchers in order to widen the scope of issuing e-rupee vouchers in the country.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das today decided to expand the scope of e-Rupee vouchers. Das said that now non-bank companies can also issue e-Rupee vouchers in order to widen the scope of the issue of e-Rupee vouchers.
The RBI governor said that at present, purpose-specific e-Rupee digital vouchers are issued by banks, but now non-banks will be able to issue Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) e-Rupee vouchers.
Apart from this, PPIs will be able to issue e-form vouchers on behalf of individuals. The Governor said that apart from this, there is an effort to simplify the process like issuing and redemption of e-RUPI vouchers, etc.
The governor said that these changes in the e-Rupee would make it easier to extend the benefits of eRUPI digital vouchers to a wider set of users, thereby deepening the penetration of digital payments in the country.
Let us tell you that in August 2021 e-RUPI digital voucher was launched. It runs on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
Presently purpose-specific vouchers are issued by banks on behalf of the Central and State Governments and to a limited extent on behalf of corporations.
Today, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das announced the decisions of the Monetary Policy Committee and said that at present there will be no change in the repo rate.
This means that the repo rate still remains at 6.5 percent. The Monetary Policy Committee of RBI, which ran from June 6 to 8, did not decide to increase the repo rate even in the meeting held in April. Apart from this, Shaktikanta Das said that the country's GDP can remain at 6.5 percent in FY24.
