NIA raids 6 places in fake currency case: Weapons-counterfeit note-making machines seized, evidence of Dawood's connection found
On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided six places in Mumbai and Thane in connection with the fake currency case. In the raid, the agency recovered several weapons and counterfeit note-making machines. The agency claims that underworld don Dawood Ibrahim is running the business of fake currency through D-company sitting in Pakistan.
The NIA issued a statement on Thursday and said that during the investigation, D Company had an important role in the circulation of fake notes in India. The Mumbai team of the agency on Wednesday raided several properties including houses and offices of several people associated with D-Company. During this, many sharp-edged weapons, fake note-making machines, and documents have been seized. The agency said the evidence seized in the raids established the involvement of D-Company in the fake currency case.
The Crime Branch of Thane Police busted the gang in November 2021 by seizing fake currency worth Rs 2.98 lakh. Two people were arrested in this. On 18 November 2021, a case was registered in this case at Naupada police station in Thane, Maharashtra. They were identified as Riyaz and Nasir, both residents of Mumbai. He is currently in judicial custody.
Thane police had also filed a charge sheet against the accused in this case on 7 February 2023. After which the entire case was transferred to the NIA in February this year. At present, the agency is probing the matter.
According to the investigating agencies, Dawood is in Pakistan. His brother Iqbal Kaskar is looking after all his work in India. He was in touch with Dawood's right hand Chhota Shakeel. Iqbal is in jail following a complaint by Thane builder Suresh Devichand Mehta. Along with him, his two henchmen Mumtaz Sheikh and Israr Ali were also arrested first by the Thane Police and then by the ED.
