The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the authorities of the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, spanning across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, to introduce a FASTag-based payment system at forest entry points. The initiative aims to provide a seamless and efficient entry process for vehicles, promoting sustainable tourism and preserving natural resources by curbing vehicular emissions at the forest entry points.

The FASTag system uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable automatic toll payments at toll plazas, with the mandate for affixation of FASTag on all four-wheelers and heavier vehicles across India. This MoU between the NHAI's subsidiary, Indian Highways Management Company and the forest department, will facilitate the collection of Ecosystem Management Coordination (EMC) fee via FASTag at various entrance points of the Tiger reserve. By enabling FASTag-based payments at forest entry points, visitors can avoid long queues and delays, allowing them to savor the natural beauty and wildlife of these areas without any hassles.

The agreement between the NHAI and the forest department is a significant step towards promoting sustainable tourism and preserving natural resources. The introduction of FASTag-based payments at forest entry points is a welcome move that not only helps to streamline the entry process but also minimizes the environmental impact of vehicles on these sensitive areas. This initiative aligns with the Indian government's efforts to promote sustainable tourism and reduce carbon emissions across the country.

This partnership between IHMCL of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the forest department is a significant step towards promoting sustainable tourism and preserving natural resources by curbing vehicular emissions at the forest entry points. It is expected to have a positive impact on the overall tourist experience, promoting a seamless and hassle-free entry process. The MoU between the two parties sets the stage for further collaboration and innovation in the area of sustainable tourism, benefitting both the visitors and the environment.
