News will not be visible on Facebook-Instagram in Canada

Users on Facebook and Instagram in Canada will soon not be able to see the News Feed. In fact, the Government of Canada introduced Bill C-18 in April 2022. After the implementation of the bill, tech companies like Google, and Meta will have to pay for the content of news publishers.
Due to this, on Thursday (June 22), Meta said, 'We are confirming that news availability on Facebook and Instagram will end for all users in Canada before the Online News Act (Bill C-18) becomes effective. ' In addition, Meta has stated that subsequent changes affecting news content will not affect Meta's products and services in Canada.
This legislation, known as the Online News Act (Bill C-18), was proposed following complaints from the Canadian media industry.
Through this, Canada wants strict regulation on technology companies, so that the news business can be prevented from being excluded from the online advertising market. Through this law, the government wants to support the struggling local news industry.
According to the government, more than 470 media outlets have closed in Canada since 2008. With this, one-third of journalism jobs were lost during this period.
