The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a new railway line project between Indore and Mumbai. The Railway Ministry will implement this project at a total cost of about Rs 18,036 crore.
The CCEA said in a statement on Monday that the new line between Indore and Manmad will provide direct connectivity and improve mobility, increasing the efficiency and service reliability of Indian Railways.
The project will span across six districts of two states, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, in addition to extending the existing Indian Railways network by about 309 km.
The works involve the construction of 30 new stations with this project, thereby improving connectivity to the aspirational district of Barwani. The connectivity that the new line project will provide covers about 1,000 villages and a population of about 30 lakh.
The CCEA statement explained that the project is a part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Connectivity achieved through an integrated plan that will provide seamless connectivity for the transport of people, goods, and services.
The Project shall benefit the development of tourism in the region owing to the facilities for shorter routes traveling between the western and southwest parts of the country and central India. It shall further lead to an increased flow of tourism towards various tourist and religious places in the Ujjain-Indore Region, including Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple. This Project will also provide direct connectivity to the Pithampur auto cluster housing 90 large units and 700 small and medium industries, which are connected to the gateway port JNPA and other state ports.
