Social media users around the world faced frustration today as Meta's platforms, including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and others, went down in a widespread outage. Users reported being logged out of their accounts and encountering difficulties while using the platforms. Additionally, some users experienced issues with the Meta-owned messaging app, WhatsApp.

The outage is evident on DownDetector.com, with a surge in user reports. Many users took to Twitter, owned by Elon Musk, to report the issue. One user jokingly tweeted, "Facebook is down, so I guess I'll come hang out with my Twitter peeps. How are we doing on this Tuesday, friends!?"

Users across all affected Meta platforms are encountering problems resetting their passwords and using two-factor authentication to log in.

This is the most significant outage of 2024 so far, impacting major social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp on a global scale, although YouTube was not affected.
