The Rajasthan government, on Monday, finally succeeded in suspending Heritage Municipal Corporation Jaipur Mayor Munesh Gurjar, a member councilor of Ward No. 43. Munesh Gujjar has been prima facie found guilty of being involved in corruption-a bribery case. The order for suspension was issued by the department of Autonomous Governance's Director Kumar Pal Gautam after the approval of the Minister of Autonomous Governance.

This created a stir in the political corridors. It is being viewed as the first step taken by the BJP government to bring about a major change in the urban government. At present, the corporation has a Congress board. Gurjar has been suspended for the third time in a tenure of 13 months. Probably Munesh is the first mayor who has been suspended for the third time in 13 months. The department has meanwhile forwarded the file to the acting mayor for being sent to Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra.

On the other hand, another faction of Congress councilors has again come in contact with the BJP. According to sources, a total of ten such councilors can support the BJP. If this happens, the Congress board can be removed and the BJP board can be formed. It is worth noting that Munesh Gurjar has challenged the ACB chargesheet in the High Court. The next hearing is slated to be heard in November.

This is the third time Munesh Gurjar has been suspended. Earlier, the previous Congress government had suspended him on 5 August 2023 and then on 26th September 2023. However, on both occasions, Gurjar challenged this decision of the government in the High Court, for which she received relief and sat back on the mayor's chair.
