The Indian Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has banned the manufacturing of eye drops made in the country, the use of which has resulted in 55 infections and 1 death in the US. The institute has also said that since the matter came to light on Friday, both countries have started investigating the matter.
The US Food and Drug Administration has warned consumers not to buy or use the drug, Azricare Artificial Tears. There is a risk of infection with this medicine. According to sources, the CDSCO under the Union Health Ministry and the State Drug Controller of Tamil Nadu have started an investigation into the matter.
America's Food and Drug Association (FDA) has said in a notification that these eye drops are suspected to be contaminated with bacteria. People should immediately stop using it. Using contaminated medicine can lead to dangerous eye infections, which can be life-threatening.
According to a CBS News report, the use of eye drops is spreading infection of bacteria named Pseudomonas aeruginosa in 12 states of America. This bacteria infects human blood, lungs and other organs. So far 55 people have been infected by it, while one person has died. Apart from this, 11 people have lost their eyesight.
According to health experts, in today's time, it has become very difficult to cure the infection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This bacteria has become more dangerous than before. Now even with normal medicines, it cannot be treated easily. This bacteria can also spread in water and soil.
