Manipur Violence: 5 arrested for carrying weapons wearing fake police uniform, local people protested

The incidents of violence in Manipur are not stopping. Manipur Police has arrested five people for wearing camouflage uniforms and carrying sophisticated weapons. Giving this information amid violence in the state, an official said that there are continuous reports of extortion, threats, misuse of police uniforms, and impersonation by armed miscreants in Manipur.

The officer said that the police are making every possible effort to deal with such incidents. "In a similar operation, five people were arrested on Saturday. They were produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded to further police custody," the official further said in the statement.

The Manipur Police statement said that a large number of people came to protest against the arrest of the accused and tried to attack "Porompat police station (in Imphal East district)". Seeing the crowd of people, the security forces fired tear gas shells, due to which the crowd dispersed.

The statement said that some people, including an RAF personnel, suffered minor injuries during the uproar. It added that the Manipur Police is committed to conducting all such raids/operations and making all efforts to bring peace and normalcy to the state.

Earlier, while giving information on September 17, PRO, Kohima, and Imphal of the Defense Ministry said that an Indian Army soldier Serto Thangthang Kom was abducted by 3 unknown miscreants, who later killed him.

Constable Serto Thangthang Kom was 41 years old. The incident happened to him when he was on leave at his home in Tarung, Imphal West. The ministry said Thangthang Kom was posted at DSC Platoon, Limakhong, Manipur. He is survived by his wife and 2 children.
