Manipur: Mary Kom writes letter to Union Home Minister, urges to ensure safety of Kom community

The violence that broke out in Manipur is still showing no signs of stopping. Meanwhile, boxing star MC Mary Kom has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to ensure security.

In fact, Mary Kom has sought intervention to ensure that security forces stop both the warring groups from infiltrating Kom villages in Manipur.

In a letter to Shah on Thursday, he said the Kom community is an indigenous tribe of Manipur, one of the smallest among the minorities. Padma Vibhushan awardee Mary Kom said, “We are all torn between two rival communities.

There are suspicions against my community from both sides and everyone is caught in the middle of the problems. Due to weak internal administration and a small minority tribal community, we are not able to fight against any forces intruding into our jurisdiction."

"We seek the help of security forces to stop both the warring groups from infiltrating Kom villages," the Padma Vibhushan awardee said. He requested all deployed contingents of the Indian Army, Paramilitary Forces, and State Forces to remain impartial in security-related matters and maintain peace and normalcy in the State.

The former Rajya Sabha member urged all people in Manipur, especially the Meitei and Kuki communities, to resolve differences and restore peace and normalcy in the state. "We all need to co-exist, so let's put aside our differences and wounds and unite," he said.
