A major accident has happened in the Arabian Sea over Gujarat. A helicopter of the Indian Coast Guard, ICG, had to make an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea near the Porbandar coast, following which the plane crashed. The debris of the plane has been recovered.

The helicopter was carrying a total of 4 crew members out of which one pilot has been rescued and the search for the remaining three crew members is on. Its two pilots are also missing.

According to the Indian Coast Guard, this happened when the helicopter was approaching the ship for evacuation. The Coast Guard has deployed four ships and two aircraft for the search operation.

This ICG ALH not only saved the lives of 67 people during the recent torrential rains in Gujarat but also succumbed to an unfortunate helicopter crash after ensuring all survivors had been aboard. The critically injured MD and co-pilot were put into the sea about 45 km off Porbandar for medical evacuation on the Indian-flagged motor tanker Hari Leela.

Rescue operations in the flood-hit Gujarat are continuing in various parts of Porbandar and Dwarka districts. The Indian Coast Guard op said that on the first day of the operation, 33 persons were rescued amid gusty winds and low visibility by the helicopters. Second day-28 more persons rescued by the Indian Coast Guard took the tally of persons rescued to 61. Gujarat has been receiving heavy rains for the last few days, due to which its many parts have gone underwater.
