The Department of Military Affairs (DMA) in the country is considering joint maintenance of weapon platforms. This initiative of the department will help in saving money in a big way. Under this, many weapons including Rafale, and Apache will be maintained simultaneously. A defense official has given this information to the news agency ANI.
He said the DMA has already initiated joint procurement of weapon systems while working towards creating joint battle formations under theater commands.
He said that even today light helicopters like Cheetah and Chetak are operated in all three services and if their maintenance is done jointly, there can be massive savings. According to the official, Indian Navy's decision to buy Rafale will help in maintenance along with the already existing Rafale. It is known that the Rafale ship is already present in the Air Force.
The joint acquisition case for procuring 31 Predator drones from the US for the three services would be accompanied by normal maintenance, repair, and overhaul within the country, the official said. He said that the defense forces have also now started working on joint acquisitions and flagship programs. Under this, there will be a general maintenance facility for light helicopters, Indian multirole helicopters, medium altitude long endurance drones, etc.
