Mahmudullah Riyad suddenly retired from T20 cricket; Will be playing last match IND vs BAN in Hyderabad
IND vs BAN, Mahmudullah Retirement: This 38-year-old all-rounder made his international cricket debut in 2007. He has 2395 runs with the help of eight half-centuries in 139 T20s and 40 wickets at an average of 27.35.
Mahmudullah Riyad, former Bangladesh captain has retired from T20 International cricket. He would be playing his last T20 International match which is the third T20 against India in Hyderabad. However, he will still be playing ODI cricket and perhaps the Champions Trophy 2025 but that may be his last tournament. He retired from Test cricket in 2021.
Before announcing his retirement in the second T20 against India in Delhi, he said "This will be my last series and after that, I will focus on ODI cricket. I had taken a decision about this even before coming to India. I also talked to my family, captain, coach, chief selector, and board president about this. I think this is the right time to move on. I will now focus on ODI matches, while the team has to play the T20 World Cup again in the next two years, so the team will focus on that."
This 38-year-old all-rounder made his international debut in cricket in the year 2007. He has 2395 runs with the help of eight half-centuries in 139 T20 matches and 40 wickets at an average of 27.35. In Test cricket, he has 2914 runs and 43 wickets with the help of five centuries in 50 Tests and 5386 runs and 82 wickets with the help of four centuries in ODI cricket. Of the few all-rounders to have achieved 10,000 runs, 100 wickets, and 100 catches in international cricket, he is one such player. He had a great match-winning performance in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy, with 43 runs in 18 balls, pulling his team into the final with one ball to spare. Mahmudullah termed it his best innings.
In 2019, Mahmudullah became the captain of Bangladesh's T20 team, too, and he still holds this responsibility up to the 2021 T20 World Cup. After a bad performance in the 2021 T20 World Cup, he had to step down from the captaincy. After having done that, his place was not considered for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Mahmudullah is also renowned for an excellent record in the ODI World Cup and holds the record of two consecutive hundreds in the 2015 World Cup. Thus, he has 944 ODI World Cup runs in 22 innings at an average of 52.44 with the help of three centuries. As far as the runs are concerned, he is the second-highest run-scorer for Bangladesh in T20Is, fourth in ODIs, and sixth in Tests.
