Mahindra Thar 5-door is one of the most awaited SUVs in the country. The Thar 5-door has been spotted testing on several occasions and the latest spy shots that have surfaced online suggest that the new model is nearing launch. New pictures surfaced recently showing a camouflaged test mule of this lifestyle SUV and it also gets production-ready alloy wheels.

Many changes have been made to the alloy wheels of the updated Mahindra Thar. Mahindra has moved away from the multi-spoke unit on the current Thar 3-door in what appears to be a diamond-cut design. The testing unit appears to come with LED headlamps with circular LED DRLs, indicating that the model is almost production-ready.

The new Thar 5-door will be a more practical offering than the 3-door model while retaining off-road capability. Previous spy shots have revealed features like the dashboard and seats, especially with the usable second row.

It will also get features like an electric sunroof, a larger infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a centre armrest between the front seats, height adjustable seats, seatbelts and AC vents for the rear passengers. It will also get a very large boot space, which will make it more practical for everyday driving.

The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door will also have a longer wheelbase to support all the changes. Power is expected to come from the familiar 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo petrol engines, which can be tuned differently.

Expect to see both manual and automatic transmission options at launch, while the model is also expected to come with 4x4. Mahindra may bring the Thar 5-door only with rear-wheel drive at a lower starting price. When it arrives next year, the SUV will take on the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door.
