Vehicle Scrapping: The Maharashtra government has decided to scrap 13,000 vehicles used by various departments of the state.
The government of Maharashtra has made the decision to scrap 13,000 vehicles that are used by several state departments. Both government and privately owned vehicles are subject to the central government's 2021 vehicle scrapping policy.
Vehicles over 15 years old that are unusable or polluting should be discarded according to this policy. The Indian government issued guidelines to set up registered vehicle scrapping facilities to implement it.
According to this, the state has identified 13,000 vehicles from its departments, semi-government bodies, local and civic bodies, and public transport undertakings. Which will be scrapped in 2024-25.
The Central Government, on August 9, had directed the state to scrap all old vehicles. A Government order, issued on November 14, said, "The process shall be completed before next year January 1."
These rules will also apply to the owners of private vehicles. According to State Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar, to be able to use their old vehicles beyond the prescribed deadline, the following three things will have to be done.
According to Bhimanwar, the first of these three steps is to get an annual fitness certificate from an automotive fitness center. That costs Rs 1,600 to Rs 1,800 and replacing the necessary parts. Second, the re-registering of the vehicle in the RTO will cost Rs 5,500. And last is a payment of green tax, depending on the type of vehicle.
