A lawyer has filed a police complaint against film actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He has alleged that the actor has hurt the sentiments of Bengali people through an ad.
The council has also made International Beverages Company a party. It has been written in the complaint that the joke made about the Bengali community is very lewd and due to this the sentiments of the Bengali people have been hurt.
In a petition filed in the Calcutta High Court on behalf of the lawyer, it has been said that he has no problem with the advertisement made in Hindi, but with the way it has been dubbed in Bengali and is being aired on many TV channels. It hurts the sentiments of the people of Bengali society.
In the video, Nawazuddin Siddiqui can be seen laughing at a joke, which is said in Bengali. There has been a controversy regarding this dialogue. The complainant has expressed objection to this and said that the sentiments have been hurt.
The lawyer said that he has no problem with the Hindi advertisement as there is nothing derogatory in it, but the Bengali version violates Section 66A of the IT Act. Section 153 IPC is also applicable to this. He also said that such ads should not be made in future.
After the police complaint and controversy, the ad will now be removed from TV and social media platforms. The beverage company has also responded on Twitter in Bengali language only. He wrote, 'We apologize for hurting sentiments with our recent Bengali ad campaign. Our company respects the Bengali language.
Even before this, objections have been raised about the advertisements many times and they have also been removed after the matter got heated. The special thing is that many times such campaigns are also done to get publicity.
