KVIC Chairman Launches 'Diwali Utsav' with a 'Vocal for Local' Theme
During the event, Shri Manoj Kumar highlighted the diverse range of local products available, catering to Khadi enthusiasts with various budgets.
In response to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's call to support locally-made products, a five-day 'Diwali Utsav' was inaugurated by the Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Shri Manoj Kumar. This event, taking place at Gramshilpa, Khadi Lounge in Connaught Place, New Delhi, aims to bolster the spirit of 'Vocal for Local' and promote the purchase of indigenous goods during festive occasions.
To bridge the gap between the Prime Minister's appeal and the citizens of Delhi, a unique assortment of locally crafted products has been made accessible during the 'Diwali Utsav.' The goal is to ensure that a wider range of locally manufactured items reaches the general public, thereby empowering rural artisans through the sale of Khadi products.
During the event, Shri Manoj Kumar highlighted the diverse range of local products available, catering to Khadi enthusiasts with various budgets. These offerings encompass clay diyas crafted by Delhi's potters, priced from Rs. 50 to Rs. 1000, exquisite idols of Lakshmi and Ganesh, handcrafted clay temples, products derived from millets by Village Industries and PMEGP units, candles, Agarbatti, Khadi jackets skillfully tailored by Khadi artisans and designers, and a fashionable array of Khadi garments.
To celebrate the Diwali Utsav and promote the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan located in Connaught Place, New Delhi, is offering special discounts, including up to 20% off on Khadi products and 10% off on Village Industries products.
Shri Kumar acknowledged the remarkable achievements of Khadi and Village Industries products, citing a historic sales figure of over Rs. 1.34 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year. Additionally, the Khadi sector created a record by generating an impressive 9.54 lakh new jobs within a single financial year.
He shared that on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, 2023, a one-day sale of Khadi products worth Rs. 1.52 Crore took place at the flagship Khadi Bhavan in Connaught Place, New Delhi. KVIC remains steadfast in its commitment to promote indigenous products and create livelihood opportunities for millions of rural artisans associated with the organization.
The program saw the presence of officers and staff, including the Chief Executive Officer of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Shri Vinit Kumar.
